FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Atlanta Falcons received some good news on Wednesday morning when coach Dan Quinn revealed that running back Devonta Freeman has cleared the NFL concussion protocol. Quinn made the announcement on 92.9 FM.
"We're pumped to have him back in action," Quinn said.
Freeman, who has missed the last two games and most of the Week 10 game vs. the Cowboys on Nov. 12, will return to practice on Wednesday. He suffered a concussion – his second of the year and third since 2015 – during the Falcons' first offensive series against Dallas. Freeman has rushed for 515 yards on 116 carries this season and scored five times on the ground. He's also caught 19 passes for 137 yards.
In Sunday's 34-20 win over the Buccaneers, starting cornerbacks Brian Poole and Desmond Trufant left the game with injuries. Poole hurt his lower back and Trufant suffered a concussion and is currently in the concussion protocol.
The Falcons (7-4) will host the Minnesota Vikings (9-2) in a key NFC showdown at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A 1 p.m. ET kickofff is scheduled.
