As the 2014 NFL season nears its end, the individual awards for efforts throughout the year continue for the Falcons. On Monday, cornerback Desmond Trufant and wide receiver Devin Hester were named to the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) All-NFC team.
Trufant is recognized as the Falcons top cornerback, recording 61 tackles, three interceptions and one fumble recovery in his second season in the league. His 18 passes defensed in 2014 tied for the fifth most in a single season by a Falcons defender. Trufant was paired with his friend, Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, as the other shutdown cornerback on the All-NFC roster.
Hester earned the PFWA honor as the All-NFC kickoff returner. The special teams playmaker returned 45 kickoffs in 2014, covering 1,128 yards (25.1 avg.). Hester finished the season with 18 punt returns, including his 62-yard score in Week 3 for his 20th-career return touchdown, a new NFL record.
It's still not too late to vote for Hester's historic punt return against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3 as the NFL's Performance Play of the Year.
