Falcons Sign QB Grossman, Waive RB Royster

The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have signed quarterback Rex Grossman and waived/injured running back Evan Royster.

Grossman, 6-1, 225, was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida. Grossman played for the Bears for six years and played in 36 games with 31 starts. He completed 521 passes for 6,164 yards and 33 touchdowns for Chicago during his tenure with the team. In 2006, Grossman played all 16 games and had 3,193 passing yards and 23 touchdowns – both career highs – as he led the Bears to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1985.

Grossman signed with the Houston Texans on June 12, 2009 and played in one game for the Texans. He then signed with the Washington Redskins on March 17, 2010 and played in 17 games with 16 starts over the next four years with the team. Grossman completed 339 passes for 4,035 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Redskins.

Grossman spent part of the 2014 season with the Cleveland Browns.  Entering his 12th season in the NFL, he has compiled a total of 863 completions for 10,232 passing yards and 56 touchdowns. Grossman is a native of Bloomington, IN.

Royster, 6-0, 207 pounds, was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round (177th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He signed with the Falcons on August 16, 2015.
