FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Falcons have added another running back to their roster, and signed Kelvin Taylor – the son of Fred Taylor, one of the most accomplished running backs in NFL history.
Taylor, 5-foot-10 and 207 pounds, ran for 1,035 yards on 259 carries and 13 touchdowns during his time at the University of Florida. In high school, Taylor was a USA Today High School All-American and attended Glades Day School in Belle Glade, Fla. As a junior, he broke Emmitt Smith's Florida career rushing yards record and for his career, he tallied 12,121 yards and 191 touchdowns.
Following his career as a Gator, Taylor was drafted by the 49ers in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent time on the 49ers' practice squad before being released mid-season. Taylor was then picked up by the Seahawks and placed on the team's practice squad. After Seattle waived Taylor, Kansas City claimed him off waivers earlier this year. Taylor spent four days on the Chiefs' roster before being released.
Fred Taylor played with the Jaguars from 1998 to 2008 and during his 11 years in Jacksonville, Taylor rushed for 11,271 yards and 62 touchdowns. He also caught 286 passes for 2,361 and eight touchdowns. He finished his NFL career with the New England Patriots, where he played from 2009-2010. For his career, Taylor finished with 11,695 yards and 66 scores on the ground.
With the addition of Taylor, the Falcons now have six running backs on their roster: Devonta Freeman, Tevin Coleman, Terron Ward, B.J. Daniels and rookie Brian Hill.
