FLOWERY BRANCH, GA– The Atlanta Falcons today have signed free agent tight end Robbie Agnone and released cornerback Gabe Derricks.
Agnone, a graduate of the University of Delaware, was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Redskins following the 2009 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-6, 260-pounder was waived by the Redskins on September 5, 2009 and spent the 2009 season on the New England Patriots practice squad.
The sure-handed Agnone was a two-year starter for the Blue Hens after transferring from the University of Pittsburgh. Agnone played in 35 games (31 starts) and caught 71 passes for 886 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career. He ranks second all-time in receptions and touchdowns for a tight end. Agnone earned third team All-Colonial Athletic Association as a senior after catching 16 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns.
The Etters, PA native was a first-team All-Mid Penn and honorable mention All-State quarterback at Red Land High School.
Derricks, a four-year starter at the University of San Diego, was signed by the Falcons as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2010.
