There is never a dull moment as an Atlanta Falcons Cheerleader. Just as we were about to get practice started last night, the greater Atlanta area came under a tornado watch. We were about three minutes into practice when the staff of our practice facility came upstairs to warn us and lead us back downstairs to ride out the storm. We were told to sit in the locker room until further instruction.
Once in the locker room, there was a mixture of emotions circling throughout the team. Some girls were calm, some girls were intently watching the news, and some were very concerned about any weather that may be coming through. It seemed like the girls who had been in the 2011 tornado in Tuscaloosa were having the hardest time, and for good reason. Nearly every girl was on their phone texting, checking the news, or checking Twitter. Much to our surprise, we found out that we were on the Weather Channel after one of our girls tweeted a picture of us sitting in the locker room.
We were in the locker room for about an hour. During this time, we were all sitting and trying to relax. When the warning was lifted, they told us we were cleared to practice. Just as everyone was gathering their belongings and heading back upstairs to our practice room, the sirens started going off again. We all quickly shuffled back to the locker room where we waited for an additional 15 minutes. Once the stormed had moved east we could finally get our practice started.
Practice seemed a little strange after all the commotion. Everyone seemed to be in a daze since we didn't officially start practice until about 8:45 p.m. However, we were able to get a lot of great work done and had a very successful practice!
We all hope that everyone stayed safe last night and regains power very quickly this morning.
Happy Friday, Falcons Fans!
