The Falcons have now locked up the No. 2 seed in the NFC. And they will host a playoff game versus one of the following teams: Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, or the New York Giants.
Exactly who and when they play won't be known until next weekend, after the Wild Card games are played. But some teams are more likely to be headed to Atlanta than others. Here's what we know: The Falcons will host the highest seed coming out of next weekend's Wild Card playoff round. The Dallas Cowboys, as the #1 seed in the NFC, will host the lowest seed to survive the Wild Card round.
This could be really simple for the Falcons. If Seattle wins their game next weekend, the Seahawks will travel to Atlanta the following weekend for the Divisional round. As the third seed in the NFC, Seattle is the NFC's highest seed playing the Wild Card Round.
However, if Seattle loses, next in line to come to Atlanta would be the #4 seed Green Bay Packers, now that they've knocked off the Detroit Lions to win the NFC North.
Should Seattle and Green Bay both lose next weekend, the Falcons will host the New York Giants.
Here's a look at the NFC Playoff seedings:
NFC Playoffs | |
1. Dallas Cowboys | 13-3 |
2. Atlanta Falcons | 11-5 |
3. Seattle Seahawks | 10-5-1 |
4. Green Bay Packers | 10-6 |
5. New York Giants | 11-5 |
6. Detroit Lions | 9-7 |
