If you're heading to Sunday night's Atlanta Falcons game against the Philadelphia Eagles, please plan for possible traffic and construction delays on routes that lead to the Georgia Dome. Below is a complete traffic advisory for construction work and anticipated delays in and around Atlanta:
Motorists need to plan ahead to avoid multiple lane closures and ramp closures on I-75 and I-285 this weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Triple and quadruple lane closures on I-75 and ramp closures in the I-85/I-285 interchange in Dekalb County will create long delays for travelers trying to make their way through those areas all weekend, weather permitting.
On I-75, four northbound right lanes and three southbound right lanes will be closed between University Avenue and I-285 in Clayton County all weekend. A number of ramps in the project area, including those from I-285 eastbound and westbound to I-75 northbound and from I-75 southbound to I-285 eastbound, will be closed at various times for resurfacing. Detours will be in place for those ramps when necessary.
On I-285, most of the work will occur in the I-285/I-85 interchange. Several ramps in the project area will be temporarily closed at different times during the weekend for paving, including I-285 eastbound to I-85 northbound and I-85 southbound to I-285 westbound. Well-marked detours will be in place for those ramps while they are closed.
"The weather is supposed to be good so we expect the contractors to make good progress," DOT District Construction Engineer Lee Upkins said. "Motorists should plan ahead to avoid the delays or plan extra time for their trips if they have to go through the project areas."
