Falcons Earn No. 1 Spot on ESPN's Roster Rankings

With the start of training camp just over a month away, it's time to take a look at what the Falcons roster looks like ahead of the 2017 season.

And ESPN and Pro Football Focus seem to really like what Atlanta has to work with this season.

With a bulk of the 2016 NFC Champion roster returning, ESPN listed the Falcons as the No. 1 roster in the NFL. The list is compiled (Insider account required) off the Pro Football Focus database that grades every player in every game.

Below are two Pro Football Focus noteworthy statistics on the Falcons:

  • Julio Jones led the league in 2016 with 3.12 receiving yards gained per route run, the third time in four seasons he has topped that category.
  • Matt Ryan had a passer rating of 128.9 when given a clean pocket last year, giving him an overall PFF grade of 93.5, the highest of his career.

Atlanta finished ahead of the New England Patriots (2), Tennessee Titans (3), Green Bay Packers (4) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (5) on the list.

The Falcons return nine offensive starters and 18 defensive players who started at least one game for Atlanta in 2016.
