FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Falcons are flying up the national power rankings after Week 5.
All eyes were on the Falcons on "Thursday Night Football," and put on a thrilling overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The victory has seemingly shifted the national media's perspective on the team — at least for one week.
Kirk Cousins had a career night with 509 passing yards and four touchdowns, amounting to NFC Player of the Week honors. Cousins led the Falcons on a game-tying drive in regulation and helped deliver a walk-off touchdown in overtime.
After the win, Atlanta took a leap in several national power rankings. In some cases, they moved up as much as seven spots. In others, they went from "pretender" to "contender." They vary in exact ranking across outlets, but the consensus is the Falcons are recognized as a top-15 team, and in most rankings a top-10 team.
