So, what exactly is a tender?
If another team signs either player, the Falcons will be compensated with a pick in the draft round attached to that player. For example, if a team signs Allen, the Falcons will be compensated with a second-round pick. Allen and Garland are both restricted free agents, meaning the team would be able to match any offer another team gives to either player.
Allen recorded 54 combined tackles with one interception, one tackle for loss, and one pass defense while starting 15 games at safety. In three seasons with the team, Allen has played in 47 games with 46 starts, while registering 212 tackles, nine passes defensed, six interceptions, one forced fumble and one sack.
Garland signed with the Falcons in 2015. In that time, he has played in 32 games. Last season, he started in three games, making his first career start in a Week 14 win over the New Orleans Saints. In 2017, Garland was the Falcons' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.
NFL free agency will officially begin on at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
