Today the Falcons have signed defensive lineman Cliff Matthews to the active roster and linebacker Josh Keyes to the practice squad. In order to sign Matthews, the team released safety Dashon Goldson.
Matthews was originally drafted by the Falcons in the seventh round (230th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. He saw action in 32 games for Atlanta and posted 20 total tackles.
Keyes was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the 2015 NFL Draft out of Boston College. He spent time as a member of the Bucs practice squad and spent a few weeks on their active roster.
Goldson was signed by the Falcons at the start of the season, in an effort to bring safety depth – the team recently promoted safety Sharrod Neasman to the active roster. Goldson has seen action in four games this season with Atlanta, mostly on special teams.
