FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – Good news, Atlanta Falcons fans: NFL games will be back in your lives quicker than it will be for 30 other fanbases.
The NFL announced Tuesday that the Falcons will face the Denver Broncos in this year's Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 1, heralding in the start of the 2019 preseason. This will be just the fourth time in franchise history that the Falcons have played in the Hall of Fame Game. Playing in the Hall of Fame Game means the Falcons will have five preseason games in 2019 instead of the traditional four.
"We are fired up to kick off the NFL's 100th season in the Hall of Fame Game," coach Dan Quinn said. "We are honored to play in Canton and be a part of the celebration for all of the inductees. This is also an opportunity for us to strengthen our connection and our brotherhood with additional time on the field."
Atlanta's most recent appearance was a win against the San Diego Chargers in 1994. Their two previous times playing in the game – both losses – occurred in 1981 against the Cleveland Browns and 1969 against the Green Bay Packers.
The Falcons last played the Broncos in 2016, when Atlanta went on the road to defeat Denver, 23-16.
