The student has surpassed his mentor.
Atlanta Falcons WR Devin Hester was tied with his mentor and good friend, Hall of Famer and former Falcons CB Deion Sanders, for the NFL's all-time lead in total non-offensive touchdowns (19), until he returned a second-quarter punt 62 yards for the score, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Thursday night, his 14th-career punt return, the 20th non-offensive score of his brilliant nine-year career.
Following the return, Hester was acknowledged in front of the Georgia Dome crowd that included the one and only Sanders, who was all smiles, congratulating Hester.
Hester has:
- 14 punt-return TDs
- 5 kickoff-return TDs
- 1 missed-FG return TD
- 14 receiving TDs
The three-time Pro Bowler, Hester signed with the Falcons in the offseason, expecting to have the very kind of impact that he's providing the team in 2014. The latest return by Hester, pushed the Falcons lead to 35-0 in the second quarter.
