Falcons head coach Mike Smith has confirmed reports that offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey has accepted the head coaching position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mularkey joined the Falcons in 2008 when Smith took over as the head coach. Since then, Mularkey's offenses and his players have set a slew of franchise records. In 2008, Mularkey's offense set the franchise record for yards in a season with 5,779 and set a new mark again in 2011 with 6,026.

"Mike made it clear when we hired him a few years ago that he wanted to be a head coach again," owner & chairman Arthur Blank said. "I do want to thank (Mularkey and Brian VanGorder) for everything they've done for the franchise the past four years."
