FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Can Michael Penix Jr. lead the Falcons to win in his first NFL start?
Almost every expert picked the Falcons (7-7) against the New York Giants (2-12) in Week 16.
The leading storyline has been Atlanta's quarterback change from Kirk Cousins to the rookie Penix, but that can't overshadow how important a win is for Atlanta on Sunday. While competing for a playoff spot, every game has become a "must-win." The Falcons are still in the hunt for the NFC South, a game behind the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and also have a chance at a wild card spot.
The Giants, however, were the first NFC team eliminated from playoff contention. They currently ride a nine-game losing streak and last tasted victory on Oct. 6 against the Seattle Seahawks. Atlanta broke its four-game skid Monday night against the Las Vegas Raiders and aim for their first win at home since Week 9. The experts like the Falcons' chances.
