Falcons aid offensive line depth with Week 4 practice squad elevation

The Falcons host the Saints on Sunday inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium for an 1 p.m. ET kickoff.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Offensive lineman Matt Hennessy has been elevated from the Atlanta Falcons practice squad for Week 4, the team announced Saturday.

The Falcons (1-2) host the New Orleans Saints (2-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Hennessy was recently signed to the Falcons practice squad this past Tuesday, when Atlanta also placed center Drew Dalman on injured reserve and signed offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson from the practice squad to the active roster.

The Falcons needed to bolster offensive line depth after Dalman (ankle) and right tackle Kaleb McGary (knee) sustained injuries during their Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. McGary has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Saints.

Hennessy is familiar to Atlanta. The Falcons selected him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He appeared in 41 games, starting 22 of them, in the three seasons that followed. Hennessy became a free agent in 2024 and spent the preseason with the Philadelphia Eagles before returning to the Falcons.

Previous 2024 practice squad elevations include:

  • Week 1: cornerback Kevin King and wide receiver Chris Blair
  • Week 2: safety Dane Cruikshank
  • Week 3: none

As a reminder, teams can elevate up to two practice squad players per game. Each player can only be elevated a max of three times. If a fourth time comes up, the player must be signed to the active roster.
