Falcons veterans and rookies teamed up Tuesday morning for the first Rookie Club event of the season.
Several players were at Georgia Mountain Food Bank in Gainesville, Ga., to help around 100 volunteers from UnitedHealthcare, which sponsors the Rookie Club.
Nine veteran players arrived at 9 a.m. to participate in an assembly line and help volunteers package and organize an assortment of food into boxes. The players who volunteered included Stephen Nicholas, James Rodgers, Patrick DiMarco, Garrett Reynolds, Peter Konz, Drew Davis, Kevin Cone, Josh Vaughan and Cliff Matthews.
All of this season's rookies then arrived at around 10 a.m. to help their teammates finish organizing the rest of the food. The rookies all then went out into the city to distribute the packaged goods door-to-door at apartment complexes and a senior center.
This was part of UnitedHealthcare's "Do Good. Live Well." campaign, which has a big push to help fight elderly hunger.
"The elderly paved the way for the youth so it's important to give back to them," said Cone. "This all means a lot. Just giving a little bit of our time, it goes a long way. Helping out people, it's a lot of fun – and it's very rewarding."
