Weatherspoon agrees to terms

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – Atlanta Falcons first round (19th overall) pick linebacker Sean Weatherspoon has agreed to terms on a five-year deal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Weatherspoon, 6-2, 244 pounds, collared 413 tackles (240 solo), 43.5 tackles for loss, 17 passes defensed, 12.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and one fumble recovery in 53 career games at the University of Missouri. He graduated as the third player in school history to lead the team in tackles three times in a career as his 413 stops rank third in school history and 10th on the Big 12 Conference all-time list. Weatherspoon was named a first-team All-Big 12 selection from 2007-09 as he averaged 132 tackles per season over that time span.

As a senior, he was voted team captain while earning Butkus Award finalist, Lombardi Award semifinalist and Lott Trophy quarterfinalist honors. He started all 13 games as a senior and posted 111 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one interception. Weatherspoon was named a second-team All-America selection by the Associated Press, The Sporting News and Walter Camp. He also garnered first-team All-Big 12 Conference accolades by the league's coaches and Associated Press.

Following the signing of Weatherspoon, the Falcons now enter training camp with all seven 2010 NFL Draft selections signed.
