Falcons elevate practice squad players from each side of the ball for Week 1

Cornerback Kevin King and wide receiver Chris Blair were chosen as the Falcons’ practice squad elevations for Sunday’s game against the Steelers.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons chose to elevate cornerback Kevin King and wide receiver Chris Blair for Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Both King and Blair were key players in Falcons training camp, playing in all three of the preseason games.

King totaled six tackles, along with the Falcons' sole interception. He picked off Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson in the preseason opener and returned the ball 29 yards. That turnover led to a Falcons touchdown.

King's background includes five seasons with the Green Bay Packers from 2017-21 in which he saw action in 51 games, making 42 starts, contributing a total of 197 tackles, 30 pass breakups and seven interceptions. His best season came in 2019, when he had 66 tackles, 15 pass breakups and five interceptions.

King stepped away from the NFL in 2022 due to personal reasons and then missed 2023 due to an injury. He tore an Achilles tendon while training for a preseason opportunity.

Blair, meanwhile, tied for fourth in the league during the latest preseason in receiving yards with 154 yards on eight receptions. He, too, played in all three games.

Blair joined the NFL in 2021 as an undrafted free agent. He was also on the Falcons' practice squad last season. He ended up playing in one game, taking nine (15%) offensive and 10 (42%) special teams snaps during the Falcons' Week 12 win over the New Orleans Saints. Blair did not record any stats, though.

The Falcons-Steelers game is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and will air live on FOX.
