TAMPA, Fla. — After listing safety Justin Simmons as doubtful heading into the weekend, the Falcons ultimately ruled him out of Sunday's Week 8 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with the starter landing on the inactives list 90 minutes prior to the 1 p.m. ET kick.
Simmons has been dealing with a hamstring injury the last couple weeks. Richie Grant is the expected starter in Simmons' place alongside Jessie Bates III at safety. Grant has started 32 games for the Falcons since being drafted by the organization in 2021.
The Falcons had previously declared inside linebacker Troy Andersen out of the game with a knee injury. This Sunday's game is the fourth game in which Andersen has missed with the injury.
The only other question mark heading into the game that was answered via the inactives list was Ryan Neuzil's status. The center has been starting in place of Drew Dalman since Dalman was placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury a few weeks into the season. Neuzil has been dealing with a knee injury this week and was originally slated as questionable heading into this Sunday's game. He does not show up on the Falcons' inactives list, meaning he is available to play. If he remains the starter against the Bucs, Matt Hennessy will act as his backup.
