What They Said: Falcons vs. 49ers

Falcons head coach Mike Smith on tight end Tony Gonzalez:"I can't say enough. He's been a guy that I've enjoyed working with and being around him. He is a super person, a great football player and he's rubbed off on a lot of people. I've learned a lot of things from Tony Gonzalez in the time he's been here in Atlanta."

Falcons center Todd McClure on the team's chances with six seconds left:"I definitely felt like we had a chance. The reality is, at the end of the game only one team can win, and we played a good team. It's a tough situation and I wish we could've won it. There just really isn't much left to say."

Tight end Tony Gonzalez on no regrets:"I'm disappointed but you will not catch me complaining. It'd be rude. I owe the game a lot. It's given me so much and I've had such a great ride. Going back to my Kansas City days, it's been unbelievable. Yeah, it may not have culminated in a Super Bowl, but you know what, I can't complain. I cannot complain and I won't."

Matt Ryan on the third-quarter fumble:"It was just kind of a freak play. I took my eye off the ball for a quick second and it ended up on the ground. Against a good football team like that you can't have those kinds of mistakes. You have to capitalize on those opportunities. We moved the ball really effectively all day we just had two chances where we were in positive territory and didn't walk away with points. When you do that against a very good football team you're not going to win."

Harry Douglas on regrouping for next year:"This loss is extremely fresh. You don't like feeling like this, you don't like the taste it leaves in your mouth. To know that we had the opportunity to win the game, it just hurts. I give the San Francisco 49ers the credit, they made more plays than we did and it turned out to be the determining factor in the game."

Sean Weatherspoon on mobile QBs and the problems they present:This is the NFL. We get paid to stop whatever type of quarterback we may face, whether he can run, can throw or do both. I feel like we did a great job in containing his play-making ability, just didn't end up on top of this one.
