In a post on Instagram, Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley stated he will miss the remainder of the 2019 season due to an abdominal injury he sustained during the team's 40-20 victory against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Ridley left the contest during the third quarter and did not return.
Prior to leaving Sunday's game, Ridley caught five passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. In his second season with the Falcons, Ridley had 63 catches for 866 yards and a team-high seven touchdown receptions. With three games remaining this season, Ridley was on pace for the first 1,000-yard season of his career.
The Falcons have utilized a number of young receivers since trading Mohamed Sanu to the New England Patriots, including Russell Gage, Christian Blake and Olamide Zaccheaus, who caught a 93-yard touchdown pass on Sunday. With Ridley now out for the rest of the year, Atlanta's remaining receivers will have even more opportunities to prove what they can do.
