Falcons sign CB Mike Ford

This marks a return to Atlanta for Mike Ford, who played for the Falcons in 2022.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons signed cornerback Mike Ford, the organization announced Monday. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter last Wednesday, March 12.

Ford's deal is reportedly for two years and worth $4 million.

This marks Ford's second stop in Atlanta. He played for the Falcons in 2022, starting two of the 17 games in which he appeared and totaling 15 tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a quarterback hit.

At the time, Darren Hall, Isaiah Oliver and A.J. Terrell, who's still rostered, were the Falcons' starting cornerbacks. Ford was also a standout special teams player for Atlanta during the 2022 season and played a team-high 361 snaps for that unit.

Ford then signed with the Cleveland Browns and spent the last two seasons there. Between the 2023-24 seasons, he played in all but one game, making one start, and had a combined 41 tackles. Ford captured his first career interception during his first season with the Browns, picking off quarterback Lamar Jackson in Cleveland's Week 10 win against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ford was originally an undrafted free agent who the Detroit Lions signed in 2018. Ford stayed in Detroit for three seasons, starting seven and appearing in 31 games overall. He totaled 49 tackles, one for a loss, and four pass breakups during that span.

The Denver Broncos signed Ford during the 2021 season. He played in 13 games and made six tackles. He missed four games while on injured reserve due to a knee injury.

After that came his first Atlanta stint.

Ford joins a Falcons cornerback room that currently features Terrell, Mike Hughes (reportedly re-signed), Natrone Brooks and Clark Phillips III.
