Falcons place WR Rondale Moore on reserve/injured list, sign former Texas punter

Wide receiver Rondale Moore sustained an injury during the Falcons' Wednesday joint practice with the Dolphins that has landed him on the reserve/injured list.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Atlanta Falcons placed wide receiver Rondale Moore on their reserve/injured list, the team announced Thursday.

Moore was carted out of Wednesday's joint practice with an air cast on his right leg. The team announced it is a knee injury.

The injury happened during one of the final 11-on-11 periods. The Falcons' second-team offense faced off with the Miami Dolphins' second-team defense. Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw an incomplete pass to wide receiver Josh Ali in the back right corner end zone. Nothing seemed abnormal until attention turned to the opposite corner. Moore was down and soon attended to by trainers.

Moore was ultimately strapped to a stretcher and transferred onto the cart. Practice ended prematurely after the Falcons circled up for a team moment.

"Certainly thoughts and prayers are with Rondale," Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins said afterward.

Moore was an offseason trade acquisition from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for quarterback Desmond Ridder. Moore was listed as a backup option in the Falcons' latest depth chart, both at wide receiver and kickoff returner. But Moore had been earning more first-team reps with the offense, specifically since the introduction of full-pads work last week.

As a corresponding move, the Falcons signed punter Ryan Sanborn, an undrafted free agent from the University of Texas. During his final collegiate season, Sanborn punted 40 times for 1,828 yards, an average of 45.7 yards per punt.

This is the second time Atlanta has signed Sanborn, having done so immediately after the 2024 NFL Draft. He was only recently released on July 24.

The Falcons already have punter Bradley Pinion on the roster, who has been with the organization since 2022 and signed a three-year deal in 2023.

Training camp, however, could provide an opportunity for Sanborn to make his name known in the NFL realm.

The Falcons have their preseason opener on Friday against the Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. That'll kick off at 7 p.m. ET and air locally on FOX 5.
