The Atlanta Falcons are pleased to announce Bernadette Birch as the Atlanta Falcons Community Quarterback Award Winner for October for her volunteer work with Cool Girls, Inc.
Birch has been a volunteer with Cool Girls, Inc. for the past three years. In addition to serving on the fundraising committee for several year-round events, as a Cool Sister, Birch is a mentor to a Cool Girl providing friendship, support as well as assistance with academic progress, personal development and well-being.
Cool Girls, Inc. was founded by Dawn Smith in 1989 in response to the desperate plight of young girls living in the East Lake Meadows housing community. Cool Girls is dedicated to the self-empowerment of girls and inspires girls to change their world. Cool Girls' community partners, mentors, and volunteer networks support girls in all aspects of their development – breaking the cycles of poverty, low self-esteem, and teen pregnancy. The life skills programs develop girls into confident women through education and exposure to a broader world of opportunity. Today, Cool Girls, Inc. serves over 400 girls through partnerships with 9 Title 1 schools in DeKalb and Fulton Counties.
