To help commemorate Veterans Day, the Atlanta Falcons will be partnering with Feed The Children, and will bring a semi tractor-trailer full of food and essentials to distribute to military veterans and military families. The distribution will begin Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Brook Run Park in Dunwoody (4770 N. Peachtree Road).
The Atlanta Falcons Rookie Club sponsored by UnitedHealthcare of Georgia, Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders and Freddie Falcon will be in attendance to handle the distribution to the military veterans and families.
The distribution is the latest stop on Feed The Children's Americans Feeding Americans Caravan, which has helped more than 160,000 American and military families across the country in cities that have been affected by the nation's economic downturn. Feed The Children plans to help at least 200,000 families with the caravan by the end of 2010.
Feed The Children partner agency, Operation Homefront Georgia, has identified the recipient families. The City of Dunwoody Parks and Recreation also partnered to help supply each family with a 25-pound box of food, a 10-pound box of essentials and a box of Avon products. The items are designed to help a family for up to one week.
The distribution at Operation Homefront Georgia is only one way Feed The Children is supporting military families in need. More than 1,700 military families have received assistance on the Americans Feeding Americans Caravan with another 2,000 receiving help throughout the remainder of the year.
"The Americans Feeding Americans project is geared toward families who are suffering during this economic downturn," said Tony Sellars, spokesperson for Feed The Children. "Many are living paycheck to paycheck, but let's not forget those who protect our country may have families that need extra help as well. We appreciate Operation Homefront and the National Military Family Association for the work they do to help these families who sacrifice for our freedom."
