FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Falcons face the Washington Commanders in their second "Sunday Night Football" game of the season, but their first with Michael Penix Jr. under center.
Penix will make his second NFL start under the prime-time lights on NBC at 8:20 p.m. ET. Both the Falcons and the Commanders are in the playoff hunt. Atlanta currently leads the NFC South while the Commanders aim for a wild card spot.
The matchup will feature two rookie quarterbacks chosen in the top 10 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Penix was picked No. 8 overall while Jayden Daniels was drafted at No. 2. Daniels is the top first-year quarterback in passing yards with 220.2 yards per game and ranks No. 10 overall with 22 touchdowns. While Daniels has had 15 games under his belt, Penix is just getting started but had an impressive showing in his first start versus the New York Giants in Week 16.
