FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons placed defensive back Antonio Hamilton Sr. on injured reserve, the team announced Saturday. In turn, the Falcons signed inside linebacker Josh Woods to the active roster.
Hamilton has been dealing with a quad injury he sustained in the first quarter of last Sunday's Week 16 win against the New York Giants. He neither returned to that game, nor participated in any practice this week in the lead-up to Sunday's Week 17 game against the Washington Commanders.
Because NFL rules require a player on injured reserve to miss at least four games, Hamilton's regular season is over.
Hamilton appeared in 11 games and took 39 defensive and 166 special teams snaps in those appearances. He recorded seven tackles. A recent and more notable play, though, came in the Falcons' Week 15 win against the Las Vegas Raiders when Hamilton pinned a 63-yard punt from Atlanta punter Bradley Pinion on the 3-yard line.
Woods, meanwhile, has been on the practice squad all season, but elevated the max of three times. He appeared in each elevated opportunity, taking 47 special teams snaps and making a tackle.
In addition to the active roster moves, the Falcons also announced cornerback Lamar Jackson and offensive tackle Tyrone Wheatley Jr. are their Week 17 practice squad elevations. This is a first for both with Atlanta.
The Falcons-Commanders matchup is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET Sunday at Northwest Stadium. NBC will carry the live Week 16 game coverage.
