STELLAR STATS

-- The Falcons are the first team in NFL history with a 300-yard passer, 175-yard receiver and 150-yard rusher in the same game who are all younger than 25 years old. Quarterback Michael Penix Jr., 24, had 312 yards passing. Wide receiver Drake London, 23, had 187 yards receiving. Running back Bijan Robinson, 22, had 170 yards rushing.

-- On the ground, Robinson finished with 170 yards and two touchdowns — both career highs. His 170 yards rushing made for his sixth consecutive game with at least 90 yards rushing, the longest active streak in the NFL. His two rushing touchdowns made for his third consecutive game with multiple rushing touchdowns, the longest streak overall in the NFL.

-- London finished the 2024 season with exactly 100 receptions. With those, he had a career-high nine touchdowns and 1,271 yards. He's the third Falcons player in Atlanta history with at least 100 reception, 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns, joining wide receiver Roddy White in 2010 (115 receptions, 1,389 yards and 10 touchdowns) and wide receiver Terance Mathis is 1994 (111 reception, 1,342 yards and 11 touchdowns).

-- Panthers quarterback Bryce Young was single-handedly responsible for five touchdowns, throwing for three and running for two. And for the first time in his starting career, he was neither sacked nor intercepted.

OBSCURE FACTS

-- Atlanta started the season going 6-3 but finished going 2-6.

-- The Falcons have failed to make the playoff for the seventh consecutive season, which is their longest streak since 1983-90. Just like the current seven-season stretch, Atlanta never once had a winning record during that previous eight-season stretch.

-- Sunday was the third time the Falcons went into overtime in the 2024 season, doing so also in the Week 5 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and in the Week 17 loss to the Washington Commanders. Three overtime games marks the most for the Falcons since 2002 when they had four overtime games. Back-to-back overtime games in Weeks 17-18 marks a very first in Falcons' franchise history.

-- The Falcons offensively outgained the Panthers, 537-425. It was the 10th time this season Atlanta outgained its opponent. The Falcons were 5-5 in those games.

QUOTING RAHEEM MORRIS

On how rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. handled becoming a starter at a pivotal point in the season…

"The light at the end of the tunnel for us, despite how bad and poor we played on defense or anywhere, is the quarterback. The organization has a quarterback that is certainly bright, that is certainly our future, that certainly can go out and make any single play and play in any single game that you can play in. Those are the things we'll talk about I'm sure tomorrow and moving forward. We'll figure out ways to fix what we need to fix. We'll figure out ways to fix the things we got to get done. But Michael Penix is certainly outstanding. He's certainly one of the guys that's going to play in this league and absolutely dominate for as long as we allow him."

QUOTING THE FALCONS

Defensive lineman Zach Harrison

On the emotions after losing and season ending…

"Losing sucks, not making the playoffs sucks. All that we can control is what we can control. We need to attack the offseason and hopefully get back next year with some different kind of focus and different kind of approach to try to get over that hump next year and reach the potential that this team has."

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

On fans being disappointed with the season's outcome…

"I feel like we've got a lot of talent on this team, a lot of talent coming back. We're just going to continue to build off of this year. I look forward to a lot of playoffs and even Super Bowls in the future here for this organization. So, tell the fans continue to believe. We're here, and we're going to be coming next year. We'll be ready."

QUOTING THE OPPONENT

Panthers head coach Dave Canales

On watching Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. play in person…

"He's a stud. He's an accurate passer. He threw it down the field, hit some really explosive plays. He's got arm talent. He's got the right demeanor, the right finish. I'm looking forward to a lot of great battles against Michael Penix."

Panthers tight end Tommy Tremble

On what made this win special…

"This is the first time I think I've ever beat Atlanta at their stadium. I live 25 minutes away from here. I grew up 25 minutes away from here. So, to get a win like that, especially with the guys all year who've worked for this, it was a great moment, man. It was a lot of fun."
