Dass die Falcons als gesamtes Team tatsächlich den besten Football spielen wollen, das haben sie gegen die Bucs wiederholt unter Beweis gestellt. Zwei Touchdowns durch Tight End Kyle Pitts nach Receptions über 36 und 49 Yards – und das am National Tight Ends Day. Daneben ein Touchdown durch Wide Receiver Darnell Mooney und auch Running Back Bijan Robinson fand sich erfolgreich in der Endzone wieder. Doch nicht nur die Offensive stach in diesem Spiel heraus. Es war insbesondere die Defensive, die den Buccaneers mittels Turnovern den Ball wegnahm und Signal Caller Cousins und seinen Playmakern Zeit auf dem Feld verschaffte. Safety Jessie Bates III konnte nicht nur mit einem Forced Fumble im ersten Drive der Bucs auftrumpfen, sondern fing zudem im dritten Viertel einen Ball von Quarterback Baker Mayfield ab. Und auch Cornerback A.J. Terrell, der im Spiel gegen die Seattle Seahawks gegen Wide Receiver DK Metcalf nicht mit vielen positive Momenten aufwarten konnte, fing eine Interception. Einziger Problempunkt: Die Falcons-Offensive konnte die Turnover nicht in Punkte verwandeln. Und so haben es die Falcons damit wieder einmal bis zur letzten Sekunde spannend gehalten.
Mit dem Sieg gegen die Buccaneers behalten sie nach Woche 8 die Tabellenführung, gehen sogar mit einer Bilanz von 5-3 um einen Sieg in Vorsprung. Und dieser Triumph war nicht nur ein wichtiger Schritt für das Team, das in der vergangenen Woche nur wenig wie eine Einheit gewirkt hat, sondern verschafft Atlanta zudem durch den Doppelsieg einen Tiebreak-Vorteil gegen die Buccaneers.
"Es ist ziemlich cool für uns, ein neues Team mit einer neuen Vision zu sein", sagte Kyle Pitts nach dem Spiel.
Mit einer neuen Vision geht es nun aus der Sonne Floridas zurück in heimische Gefilde. Am kommenden Sonntag (3. November 2024) treffen die Falcons um 19:00 Uhr deutscher Zeit zu Hause im Mercedes-Benz-Stadium auf die Dallas Cowboys, die aktuell mit einer 3-4-Bilanz an Platz drei in der NFC East verweilen.
